25/01/2010 (updated 27/01/10) Tessa Jowell and her Streatham colleague Chuka Umunna are asking long suffering First Capital Connect passengers for their verdict on the company this week. They will be asking commuters at local stations to let them know whether the FCC service has returned to an acceptable level after weeks and months of delays, cancellations and overcrowding caused by running short trains. If you use the service but have not received a survey form please click on the image to the right, print off the survey and return it to Tessa and Chuka. Tessa said: "The Transport Secretary has...
Tessa Jowell welcomes new Norwood primary school places
For immediate release - 25/10/01 LOCAL MP ‘DELIGHTED’ WITH PLANS FOR NEW RECEPTION PLACES FROM SEPTEMBER After many months of lobbying the government and following discussions with local schools and parents, real progress appears to have been made by Tessa Jowell MP and Labour Lambeth in expanding primary school places in the Norwood area. The full plans, subject to agreement by the school and governors, will involve expanding the successful and popular Julian's Primary School. This good news means that, as well as Kingswood School having two extra reception classes, Julian’s will have an extra reception class from September....
Tessa welcomes £2.45 million boost to push up standards in local schools
Local MP Tessa Jowell has revealed new figures published this week that show that children across Lambeth and Southwark will benefit from a total of £2,447,135 of funding for one-to-one tuition in state schools. Tessa Jowell has welcomed the announcement of this extra funding which will help to provide 10 hours of one-to-one tuition in English and maths for children at primary school and in the early years of secondary school who are falling behind in literacy and numeracy. Tessa Jowell said: "Thanks to the hard work of pupils, teachers and teaching assistants, together with record...
Tessa Jowell objects to Crystal Palace planning application
Tessa Jowell has objected to an application for a change of use at the old bingo hall at 25 Church Road, London SE19 2TE. The application to Bromley Council is for a change of use from 'Assembly and Leisure' to 'Non residential institutions'. Tessa supports the views of many of her constituents who feel that the loss of the site would prevent it from being used for entertainment in the future when there is a lack of such facilities in the Crystal Palace Triangle area. Click on the image to the left to see a copy of Tessa's letter...
Tessa Campaigns to Save the South London Line
Tessa Jowell was joined by Harriet Harman MP, GLA Member Val Shawcross and supporters from across the political spectrum at a rally to launch the campaign to Save the South London Line at Denmark Hill Station. Undertakings that the South London Line would be diverted after 2012 to preserve a regular service into Victoria have been reversed by TfL. The Department for Transport has provided the vast majority of funding to help bring the long-awaited East London Line Extension (ELLX) to Denmark Hill and Peckham Rye. But it appears that TfL's major contribution to the cost of the...
