Tessa Jowell joined Cllr Jackie Meldrum, Deputy Leader of Lambeth Council, Labour Action Team members and community activists from West Norwood and Gipsy Hill to sign a pledge to deliver a brand new Swimming Pool, Health & Leisure Centre on the site of Norwood Hall.
The new development has been guaranteed by extra funding provided by the Government. Local Tories have repeatedly tried to block the Norwood Hall development.
The project has come about following extensive consultation with the local community and will represent a major investment for Norwood, boosting leisure provision and NHS services for people in West Norwood, Gipsy Hill and the wider area.
Tessa Jowell commented: 'This project is supported by the local community and it will provide excellent new leisure and health facilities.
'I have been really impressed with the way that the Labour Council in Lambeth has worked with the local NHS on this project to see it delivered to the benefit of the local community. It is in stark contrast with LibDem and Tory controlled Southwark Council where the Councillors' attitude to our local NHS seems to be to shout abuse from the sidelines.'
