RSPCA - new pet chipping date 7 February

RSPCA chip

Yet another highly successful pet chipping day in December helped take our local RSPCA well beyond the 2000 mark for pets chipped last year. A huge thank you is due to the RSPCA, those who volunteer to help it and for people who make donations to support their vital work

There will be a further pet chipping session on 7 February from 12noon - 4pm at RSPCA shop in West Norwood (380 Norwood Road SE27 9AA – opposite junction with obson Road).

Tesas Jowell commented: "I have nothing but admiration for the RSPCA and our local branch is leading the way in ensuring that as many pets as possible are chipped. I would, once again, urge local people to take advantage of this service and for anyone who can afford it to make a contribution to the excellent work of the RSPCA."

After a fantastically successful pet chipping day in October (see below) when 124 animals were chipped and donations of £270 were made, a new chipping date has been announced for December.

The RSPCA shop in West Norwood will have a free microchipping day on Sunday 6th December from 12 noon until 4pm. The shop is located at 380 Norwood Road, London SE27 9AA (opposite the end of Robson Road).

The RSPCA has chipped 1781 animals this year and is hoping that over 2000 will be chipped by the end of the year.

Tessa Jowell said: "This is a fantastic achievement by our local RSPCA branch. They deserve our congratulations and thanks. Already, dogs have been reunited with their grateful owners as a result of these chipping sessions.

"I would encourage anyone who has a pet that isn't yet chipped to attend the session in December. Getting a pet chipped brings peace of mind to owners and greatly increases the chance of being reunited with a pet if they do happen to go astray.

"And please do consider giving a donation to our local RSPCA to help to support this and the other excellent work that they carry out  on our behalf locally."

Tessa Jowell is keen for as many people as possible to get their pets chipped. The local RSPCA branch in West Norwood has been fantastic in promoting chipping in the local community. Chipping means that pets can be identified easily and quickly returned to their owners.

At the last session run by the RSPCA in August (see below), 96 animals were chipped and almost £200 was received by the RSPCA in donations. So far this year over 1200 animals have been chipped locally by the RSPCA - a fantastic achievement.

There will be another session on Sunday 11 October from 12 noon until 4pm at the RSPCA shop - 380 Norwood Road, London SE27 9AA (opposite the end of Robson Road).

The RSPCA branch covers south-east London and anyone from the local area is welcome to attend the session.

Tessa Jowell is carrying out a survey in the West Norwood area of her constituency after a number of constituents have contacted her with concerns over responsible dog ownership.

She commented: 'Many residents have talked to me about their concerns over the increasing amount of dog mess on pavements. Others tell me they feel unsafe using our parks and playgrounds where they often see dogs out of control.

'Most dog owners treat their pets as members of the family and worry about losing their dog. Some would like more help with exercising and training their dog properly.

Tessa is supporting the RSPCA in West Norwood in encouraging local owners to get their dogs ‘chipped’ with a tiny ID tag. This makes it easier to identify lost dogs and return them to their owners.

Tessa has also signed up to an animal welfare charter for Lambeth to encourage responsible sales and ownership of pets. This can be signed at the RSPCA shop at 380 Norwood Road.TN Dog Survey
