Tessa Jowell recently chaired a meeting organised by the Dulwich and Herne Hill Trade Justice Group - an organisation drawn from a large number of local churches - as part of the Dulwich Festival.
Tessa was joined by representatives from the World Development Movement and Traidcraft as well as candidates for the European elections. She took the opportunity to review progress since she led a delegation of the group in a meeting with the Development Secretary Douglas Alexander in the summer of 2008.
Tessa offered to organise a further meeting with the Development Secretary so that local activists could again press the case for fairer trade.
Tessa spoke of the enormous importance of the Fair Trade movement and extolled people, even in these difficult economic times, to remember those in the developing world and the positive impact we can have by the every day purchasing choices we make. |
